Concept 2 Rowing Machines

The benefits of using a rowing machine are recognized by professional athletes, commercial fitness institutions, and the home user. One of the most respected commercial rowing machines on the market today is the Concept2 rowing machine, because it stands up so well to continuous punishing use. There are two models available which are the Model D, and the Model E, which are basically the same machine, with some minor cosmetic changes. There is one other major difference, and we will get to that in a moment.

As stated, Concept 2 rowing machines are built to handle fitness gym usage, but it's easy enough to use for home users, or even people who may be going through some forms of physical therapy. For years, Concept2 has been a favorite rowing machine for fitness gyms, physical therapy clinics, and several other clinical and athletic applications.

Each Concept II rower is equipped with a choice of two different monitors, the PM3 or the PM4. While both offer very similar capabilities, the PM4 has some additional features such as wireless machine to machine racing options, a rechargeable battery pack, and increased memory capacity, as well as some additional games and software utilities.

The Concept 2 Model E is almost identical to the Model D in appearance, except that it includes an extra shroud to protect the user from contact with the chain, and a glossier finish on the metal parts where the Model D has a matte finish. The frames for both models are the same length, and the functional mechanisms are 100% identical. There is only one major difference between the two, and that is the height from floor to the seat level.

On the Concept 2 Model D, the seat, as with all other Concept 2 rowing machines, is a mere 14 inches off the floor. Recognizing that this low seat position could present usage issue for people with some physical restraints, the Model E was developed, and sits six inches higher, bringing the seat level up to 20 inches, which roughly matches the seat level for an ordinary chair, or even a wheelchair, allowing for easier access from a sitting position.

One other difference, the Model D Concept rowing machine has an adjustable arm for the monitor, so that the user can adjust it for optimized viewing, while the model E monitor attaches to a fixed arm. This could be an important consideration for some people, where access to the display would be complicated by the fixed monitor position. One thing for certain, a Concept2 rowing machine is one of the most durable and beneficial of all rowing machines.
